Stephen is a freelance clarinettist based in London. He has performed throughout the UK and abroad with a variety of ensembles including the Britten Sinfonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, City of London Chamber Orchestra, Haffner Wind Ensemble, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Ensemble MidtVest in Denmark. He has also performed at various international music festivals including the Aldeburgh Festival, Cheltenham Festival and Chipping Campden Festival, and in his final year of studies gave solo performances at both Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York and the Barbican Hall in London.
Also a dedicated teacher, Stephen teaches clarinet at The Purcell School, one of the UK’s leading specialist schools for young musicians.
A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Stephen studied clarinet with Andrew Marriner, Joy Farrall, Nicholas Carpenter and Andrew Webster, and composition with James Weeks and Dr Paul Newland. His compositions have been performed and workshopped by a variety of groups and ensembles including The Hermes Experiment and the acclaimed vocal ensemble EXAUDI. During his studies he was generously supported by Help Musicians UK, Denne Gilkes Memorial Fund and GSMD Scholarship Award.
