William Marsey is a London-based composer.
His chamber and vocal music is performed regularly. Most recently he has worked with the Albion Quartet, the Laefer Quartet, CHROMA ensemble, Stephen Upshaw, Eo Nomine, and NY-based six piano ensemble Grand Band. His music has been performed at Nonclassical, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Rough for Opera, St David’s Hall Cardiff, and the Wigmore Hall.
He is co-founder and artistic director of Listenpony, a charity, concert series, commissioning body, and record label for new and old and pop music. To date the company has produced 15 concerts, 3 commercial recordings, and has commissioned and premiered over 50 new classical works from young composers. Originally from Hartlepool, County Durham, William has studied composition with Giles Swayne at the University of Cambridge and with Gary Carpenter at the Royal Academy of Music, his education supported by donors including the Lady Clare Fund and the Ralph Vaughan Williams Trust. In 2017 he will begin studying towards a PhD with Ed Finnis at the Royal Academy of Music, as Manson Fellow.
